The Albany Memorial Park Cemetery, the first consecrated cemetery in Western Australia, which dates from initial use as a public burial ground in 1840.The cemetery closed as a public cemetery in 1959 and is now a Memorial Park Cemetery.
The cemetery was composed of two parts, the Lower Cemetery and the Upper Cemetery, divided by Middleton Road.The Memorial Park Cemetery is the final resting-place of approximately 5,000 individuals, although only about 1,100 names are noted on memorials in the cemetery. These people from a wide range of racial and socio-economic backgrounds, and are not only members of local Aboriginal and pioneering families, but also of convict and chinese origin
