In 1895, a round clock tower designed by architect George Temple Poole was added to the south side of the existing 1869 Post office building, the tower was extended 7m in 1901 to increase the drop required by the weight-driven clocks, this increased its height to 28m. There are faces on each of the four sides , but only the north and west appear to be working, the 1.2m diameter dials feature black roman numerals on a white background
