This is one of at least three sculptures of the Johnsons of the Endicott-Johnson Shoe Company in Johnson City and Endicott.
They contributed many things to the welfare of their workers including parks with carousels. They helped build houses, renting to the workings with the rent going toward purchase. The factories created the villages of Johnson City and Endicott. The workers in return built arches that proclaimed the home of the square deal.
