The Stirling Public Library was made possible due in part to a $5000- grant received from the Carnegie Foundation in 1914. The building was designed by architect William Austin Mahoney.

The building served as the main library in Stirling until 1989, when a new addition was built adjacent to the old one. This building became the main Stirling Library and the otriginal building became an annex and offices for the Stirling Historical Society.
