The Stirling Festival Theatre started life as the Community Services building in 1927. The upper floors served as a community centre. The lower area served as offices, the town jail, and other community functions.
The auditorium served as Stirling's movie theatre from 1936 until the mid-50's. By 1982, the Community offices needed more modern accommodation and moved out. There was talk of demolishing the facility, but local residents took up the cause of preservation and restoration. A committee was formed, charged with turning the facility into a performing arts centre. During the first summer, professional acts were brought in, and local productions carried out. This proved very successful, and has led to year round performances, including plays put on by the Stirling Festival Players.
Over $500,000 in renovations were been carried out over the years. Today, well over 45,000 people yearly come to enjoy the various productions.
