The Finland Minnesota Historical Society established the Heritage Site in 1986 and acquired the 40 acre John Pine Homestead. Designed to give honor the Finnish pioneers who settled this town, the homestead now boasts such buildings as the visitor center (1st Forestry Building, dated 1927), John Petaja home (1906), the original Park Hill school, blacksmith shop, Alex Rouska sauna, and the Suomi museum. The house and school contain period furnishings.
