The following comes from the synagogue website to describe its mission:
Our Philosophy
Havurah Shir Hadash is a community that celebrates our diverse approach to spirituality, Jewish practice, and our relationship to G-d. We are committed to deepen our knowledge of G-d and of ourselves.
We actively maintain a sense of rootedness and joy in Judaism. We are open to learning from other spiritual paths to see how they can help Judaism move into this new millennium.
At the same time, we are committed to sharing sacred Jewish technologies with other religious traditions.
In these times, Israel’s existence is still being questioned, and is being boycotted by a few academic circles in the U.S. and Europe. In response, the Havurah Council has unanimously agreed to adopt a statement of support for the state of Israel: “Havurah Shir Hadash is steadfastly committed to the support and recognition of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, and as a member of the family of free nations.”
A large polar bear sculpture in the back parking brought my daughter and I to this sanctuary and I discovered the background about this sculpture here.
