"Although the first written document that is kept in this shrine dates from the year 1544, the Christianization of this site as well as the foundation of the first chapel dedicated to the Virgin had to be very above. In fact the previous document refers to a letter executoria proceedings promoted by Don Fernando de Castro, pastor of the village of Muxia, addressed to the Archbishop of Santiago, D. Lope de Mendoza, requesting annexation-chapel boat to Parish Santa Maria, on the basis of:

"For God's service and devotion of the residents of this town and elsewhere who came to the place that was said Das Cruces, where there was a shrine of Our Lady of the boat, and for better served outside and treated commanded them and gave authority to license and that in the place where it was said chapel was made and rebuild, as hitherto was built and to annex it and incorporate it into the parish church of Santa Maria Mugía ".

The deterioration in what was the first chapel us consider its antiquity came one or two centuries ago, so we can deduce that the first chapel erected in this place must date from the eleventh century or XII.

This chapel was rebuilt several times, as contained in the file enforceable parish until the early eighteenth century, particularly in the year 1719, is constructed the present temple. The works were paid for with donations that made John D. Rivadeneira, Count of Frigiliana, continued by his daughter perish Taboada and his son-in, Count of Maceda, José Benito Lanzós Novoa and Andrade. The stone used proceeded mostly of a ruined house monks Moraime located in the shore area (where today is the current fish market) and that in previous years had been owned by the family of Carantoña.

In the year 1729 Mr. Antonio Pedro Nolasco, Count of Maceda, asks permission Archbishop of Santiago to move them his parents' ashes in this Sanctuary, him being authorized permit. The transfer is done in the following years. The count of Maceda lies at the high altar's foot Gospel and his wife, the Countess of Taboada, is on the side of the Epistle. In its stone slabs are engraved them their weapons.

The rectory there torque of the Chapel and the bell there independently built later. The first date of the year 1828, built by the mandate of the pastor of Muxia José Martínez Fondevila, and the second date of the year 1834. The towers of the Sanctuary are recent construction (1958), being paid for by D. Romualdo Bentín Moreira, natural Muxia village."
