University Hall stands on the eastern edge of The Oval, a large open area around which the original buildings on the campus were erected. University Hall was the first building erected and remains the most photogenic. In the alcove are many plaques, most of which dedicate the 47 bells in the tower's carillon to alumni and past faculty.
This, the largest plaque in the alcove, was placed
In Memory of These Former Students
Who Gave Their Lives For Their Country
In World War II.
The tall bronze plaque then lists the names of the 156 students.
