World War II Museum - Natick, MA - War and Military Museums on Waymarking.com

In Natick, behind a shopping plaza, is the Museum of World War II.

The museum building is on Mercer Road, near the intersection with Dean Road. A parking lot is on the side. There are flags around the entrance and draped on the wall. I did not see a sign. The building is located in a small industrial complex, behind the Sherwood Plaza strip mall.

You must reserve ahead of time - you cannot just walk in. See the web site for contact information. After you reserve, you will be required to print and sign a few forms. On the day, you will need to bring government identification. A contribution of $25 per person is requested. No cameras are allowed inside.

When you go in there, you will step into the first area and hear an introduction, then receive a special cell phone that allows you to hear descriptions and stories about artifacts throughout the museum.

I was not prepared for the shear size of the collection. The artifacts are grouped in themed rooms. If you go through every part of the building it will easily take two to three hours. The web site has a virtual tour that shows many items on display. Some artifacts include: clothing worn by such notable people as Adolph Hitler, Gen. George Patton, and Winston Churchill; code making and receiving machines; various military maps; various letters and drafts of important documents; propaganda that includes posters, post cards, and games; and a tank.

While you are there, someone who may have been a veteran may be there to talk about the war - there was one there while we were there.

They are currently raising funds to build a larger facility to show more of the collection.
