This Freedom Rock sits near the courthouse on the SE corner of the square. It was painted by Ray “Bubba” Sorensen II whose goal is to offer a painted memorial in each of Iowa’s 99 counties. Each of the rocks include a flag draped over the stone canvas; the images on this rock include: “Thank you veterans,” a local serviceman being welcomed back to town, Brig. Gen. Francis Drake, The first USS Iowa, eagle, and emblems of the military service branches.
