Since 1929, the Ghan makes it possible to travel Australia's otherwise quite inaccessible center by train. The original Ghan had a steam engine and narrow-gauge tracks and was replaced by today's system in 1980.
The entire journey between Adelaide and Darwin takes 54 hours. During the journey, there are longer stops at Alice Springs and Katherine for sightseeing. Appropriate Tours can be booked on the train, for example to Katherine Gorge.
This waymark points to the station in Alice Springs, where also the gallery photo was taken.
