The Kathleen Springs are situated in the Watarrka National Park near Kings Canyon in Australia's Red Center. In this arid region, the water from the springs was and is of big importance to the wildlife and the residents of the region. The Luritja people traditionally hunted in the area, as the water attracted many animals. For them, the area is a spiritual place as the rainbow snake from the dreamtime lives in the ponds created by the spring. Later, cattle breeders also used the springs to water their livestock. This led to many conflicts with the Luritja.
There is a designated parking, from which the Kathleen Springs can be reached by a quite easy hike of about 0.8 miles. Please be aware that camping and swimming is prohibited in Kathleen Gorge.
