The Museum of Art and Whimsy - A fun place to visit & its free. Located at 2121 N Tamiami Trail. You cant miss it as you drive North on the Trail, the 10 feet tall, 1600 pound, the day-glow Flamingos, are your clue, to your destination.
The weldment kinetic sculpture of a larger than life Flamingo, stands over 7 feet tall, displayed in the center of the sculpture garden, of the Marietta Museum of Art & Whimsy. The pink Flamingo is made from powder coated steel. The head & beak of the flamingo will move if pushed, or maybe if the wind is in the right direction. The pivot pin is hidden under the eye, and there are substantial bearings hidden in the head. The head is finely balanced & will rock gently for a few minutes after a push. I have take two photos from each side, showing the head in different positions.
The artwork is typical of sculptor Frederick Prescott, and dedicated on March 5th 2013.
"The Marietta Museum of Art and Whimsy, is a new and unique Museum dedicated to the creative human spirit and raising the importance of Whimsical Art. We represent mostly living female and male artists equally. Our exhibit is a collection of light-hearted paintings, sculpture and stained glass. The outdoor Gardens feature grand pink flamingos, a spinning ballerina and a stainless steel rocket ship. They’re nestled within a canopied historic oak grove with cascading orchids and indigenous tropical plants. Being here will inspire your creativity and touch your heart!" Text source: (
