St. Stephen the Martyr was established in 1957 as a mission. Sunday masses were held at the Middleburg Community Center. Before long, a familiar face started coming to the makeshift church with his family; Presidential candidate (at the time) John F. Kennedy. The church was built in 1963. There was a room there specifically designed for the president himself, with bulletproof glass and an outside phone line that dialed the white house. President Kennedy attended five masses at the church before his assassination in November of that year. Today, the church has seen little change other than a major renovation in 1991. The current pastor is Fr. Christopher Murphy. Masses are at 9AM Monday-Friday, 5PM Saturday and 8AM, 10:45AM and 1:30 PM (Spanish) on Sunday.
