"St John the Baptist became redundant as a result of the Brooke Report, which is also sad, but understandable given the proximity of St Andrew and St Peter Mancroft. For a while, it was used by the Greek Orthodox community, which unfortunately made it inaccessible to other people, but since they moved on to the Mother of God, the building has come into the care of the Churches Conservation Trust, making it accessible again."

" The beautiful church of St John Maddermarket is located in the heart of the city of Norwich. The buildings that crowd around the church add to its ambience with the adjacent Maddermarket Alley actually passing under its tower.

The church is square in plan with slender 15th century arcades and a tall clerestorey of the same date. Although greatly altered in 1863 (following a gas explosion), the nave roof is outstanding, displaying as it does some fine medieval timberwork. Other features include a fine selection of monuments and a striking Georgian reredos."
