Standing on a hillside overlooking Riverside, St. Mary’s Catholic Parish complex stands tall on a prominent spot in town. The original church occupied St. Mary’s Parish Hall in 1905; a rectory and school now complete the campus. The tall black steeple on the large brick church extends from the bell tower where clocks face all four directions; an angel statue welcomes worshippers through three front doors. The arched ceiling depicts scenes from Jesus’ life, and the twelve apostles are painted in medallions between each arch. St. Mary’s was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
