This memorial dedicated to the visit of Cavalier de LaSalle is located near Portage Avenue in Sound Bend, Indiana. According to the inscription on the memorial, Cavalier de LaSalle was the FIRST white man to visit this area.
The inscription on the memorial reads as follow:
ROBERT RENE CAVALIER SIEUR DE LASALLE

MAN TO VISIT THIS REGION, PASSING FROM
ST.JOSEPH RIVER TO KANKAKEE RIVER.
