In 1986, the uninhabited Isle of Staffa was gifted to the National Trust for Scotland by Jock Elliott Jr. to honour the 60th birthday of his wife Eleanor. Since 2001, it is a National Nature Reserve.
Staffa offers many attractions, among others striking basalt column formations, several sea caves, the most famous of which is Fingal's Cave, bird watching (puffins), and the ruggedly picturesque setting of a remote, uninhabited island.
Staffa can only be reached by boat. Organized boat tours from Mull and Iona are available during summer.
