As described by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey in 1953 (although already monumented in 1935):
"AT AUSTIN, ON THE CAMPUS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS, AT THE INTERSECTION OF WHITIS AVENUE AND WEST 24TH STREET, 37 FEET EAST OF THE CENTER OF THE NORTH ENTRANCE TO THE CAMPUS, 32 FEET SOUTH OF THE CENTER LINE OF WEST 24TH STREET, 35 FEET NORTHWEST OF LIGHT POST 40, 0.15 MILE NORTH OF TRIANGULATION STATION U. TEXAS 1935, 2 FEET SOUTH OF THE SOUTH CURB OF WEST 24TH STREET, SET IN THE TOP OF A CONCRETE POST WHICH IS FLUSH WITH THE GROUND."
The CGS description is quite accurate and should definitely assist future seekers in finding this benchmark -- alternatively, please see one of the gallery images where the benchmark has been "highlighted" within a pink oval for ease of reference..
The CGS' 1953 coordinates, however, are a little off (as is to be expected, it happens all the time with older benchmarks). The NGS reports it at "N 30° 17.233 W 097° 44.433" which is about ~120 ft SSW from the benchmark in question. The actual coords -- as measured within 10' accuracy and 20+ reading averages -- are "N 30° 17.250 W 97° 44.422".
Also, please note that the CGS reports this benchmark as a "Reference Mark Disk", when it is actually an "Azimuth Mark" (as written on the actual disk).
