This area was settled before the US Civil War by
Thomas Carney, who is buried in an abandoned cemetery down in the Carney Creek Valley below this church. Although on a ridge, this area is also known as Pleasant Valley, as well as Carney. The cemetery opposite of this abandoned church is known as the
[Old] Carney Cemetery.
It is unknown when this building was last used as a church. There are some old Christmas lights suspended from the ceiling and tree trunk sections piled up inside. The only mentions of this church found on the web are in this rootsweb page -- look for church (but not the mention of the Christian Church). The symbol for the church can be seen in section 27 of the 1909 plat map of this area, next to the school symbol. (The heaped remains of the school are still visible up the hill from this abandoned church.) It is immediately obvious from the outside of this building that it can no longer be used for any purpose.
