California Pines Lodge is located a few miles SW of Alturas within its own community. It includes the lodge/rooms, its own airport, a reservoir lake, three campgrounds, three fishing ponds and over 33,000 acres of land spread out with private homes trickled throughout its property. The lodge resort was complete in the late 1960s by the Carlsberg family as a retreat for hunters and fishermen as well as a second-home destination. The property has slowly evolved over the decades with a number of homes built and scattered throughout the land, but the lodge and nearby rooms have retained its older, rustic feel.
