The first newspaper published in Plains, The Plainsman, rolled out the first issue on November 9, 1895. It published continuously, save for a couple of hiccups of a few months and another of four years, until April 30, 1992. A Relative newcomer, the Clark Fork Valley Press didn't publish its first issue until April 14, 1983. It continues in publication to this day, however. Now publishing an online issue, as well as the print issue, it is now aligned with the Mineral Independent, of Mineral County, which lies directly south of Sanders County, the location of Plains, MT. The Mineral Independent first published in 1906 and continues to the present.
