The tennis courts are on the southern corner of the E.L. Johnson Pool Park on Oak Street, which occupies a full city block between Willis and Boyer Streets. Other facilities include the E.L. Johnson Memorial Pool, skateboard park, playground, wading pool and a basketball court.

The courts are not in great shape any more, with years of patching evident on the concrete surface, likely leading to a few weird bounces. We visited in April, before the nets were up, so can't comment on those. The courts are surrounded with tall chain link fencing and have only a couple of wooden benches, one at each side of the court.

James was born on August 7th, 1941 in Missoula, Montana and passed away on November 30th, 1978. He is interred in Plains Cemetery. He was married to Geraldine ‘Geri’ Dixon Knight in Dillon in August 1967. They lived in California while Jim attended mortuary school, then moved to Missoula. Jim and Geri moved to Plains in 1972, where Jim became the funeral director at Shrider’s Mortuary and Geri continued with public health nursing. Two children were born from this union, a son, Jarrod, and a daughter, Atari. Jim died in an automobile accident on Nov. 30, 1978.
