This plaque is dedicated to McCook’s Brigade in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. The plaque describes the action on Sept. 18 - 19.

Text on the plaque reads:

The afternoon of the 18th the Brigade marched from Rossville to support Minty’s Calvary in disrupting the passage of the Confederates at Reed’s Bridge.

Arriving at this position just at dark the head of the column ran into the rear of McNair’s Confederate Brigade passing up the Alexander’s Bridge Road. Capturing 22 prisoners.

During the night the Brigade was joined by Col. Mitchell’s Brigade . Before daylight the 69th Ohio was sent to capture Reed’s Bridge, which had been taken by the Confederates the afternoon of the 18th. The Regiment charged across the bridge and set it on fire. At 7 A.M. on the 19th the Brigade was ordered to return to Rossville.
