This is London's newest river crossing that opened today, 28th June 2012. The crossing is from the Royal Docks, on the north side of the river) to the Greenwich Peninsula (on the south side).

Each gondola can hold up to ten people but, even on the opening day, they was only a few people in each one. The crossing time is between five and ten minutes and, as the recorded voice says, altitudes of 290 feet will be reached. The service claims that up to 2500 people can be carried across the river each hour.
The direction of travel is east/west but this equates to travelling from the north side to the south side of the river.
Opening times:
- Weekdays: 7am to 9pm
- Saturdays: 8am to 9pm
- Sundays: 9am to 9pm
- Summer: April to September
- Winter: October to March
These will change slightly in winter.
Operating times may be extended up to 00:00 on certain days of the year and during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Please refer to www.tfl.gov.uk/emiratesairline for further information.
The Emirates Air Line will not operate on Christmas day and at certain times of the year for maintenance works.
The scheduled journey time is approximately 5 minutes. Between 10:00 and 15:00 this will be extended to 10 minutes. This is subject to availability, at busy times the extended journey time may not be possible.

The round trip ticket is subject to availability and may not be available during busy times.
Multi journey tickets are available to try and get commuters to use the service.
The views are tremendous with the QE II bridge and Wembley Stadium being visible.
The cable car is sponsored by Emirates Airline with the landing/departure points being called 'Emirates Greenwich Peninsula" and "Emirates Royal Docks". These are now appearing on the new underground maps.
