This 29-foot diameter limestone fountain is located in the NE corner of Republic Square. From the Smithsonian AIC Description:
An irregular, circular-shaped, flat base which is a maze of limestone blocks radiating from a center point outwards. In the center, metal tubes are incorporated between blocks for the fountain, and the water drains between spaces in the blocks. On the west side of the fountain are five stone blocks, each about 2 1/2 ft. high, situated at intervals of about 5-6 ft. along the periphery of the circle. The periphery is made of stone blocks which form a low lip around the fountain, encircling about 3/4 of the area. The lip ends at a large block of stone on the eastern side.
From the Smithsonian AIC Remarks:
Inscription on nearby marker reads: The Taylor Fountain given by Mr. & Mrs. Jack G. Taylor/1986. The fountain was financed as part of the $100,000 refurbishment of the park, funds provided by local resident Jack G. Taylor. Taylor was Associate Professor of finance at the University of Texas and chairman of the University of Texas Development board.
