Nothing is known about Wilfred Simons. However, there appears to be some connection to RAF Wyton. The painting was donated to the National Trust in 2002 by officers from RAF Wyton.
The river to the East of the mill turns South allowing the South face of the mill to be seen. The today picture was partly obscured by foliage on the river bank. The painting, oil on textured board and dated to 1954, is in the collection of the National Trust at Houghton Mill.
