The exterior of the building remains pretty much intact from its original construction date of 1890. The building was built at the foot of the falls to utilize the power of the cascading water. This was one of the first factories built in Hawley and one of the last to cease operations. At its peak it employed 200 people and was built as a glass cutting operation. In later years the building was used in silk throwing. It was a major supplier of yarn from emblems, insignias, and nylon cord for parachutes.
