A stone tablet in San Jose's Japanese Friendship Garden has a quote in Japanese characters...except for the name of the person quoted:
"PAUL M. IWASHITA
JULY 4, 1976"
The words are translated on an adjacent wooden plaque that reads:
"I'VE CHANGED MY
DWELLING TO BATHE
IN SUMMER COOLNESS,
SO TRANQUIL, SO CALM.
Translated by Myron Wahlstrand"

He was my grandfather and I am named after him. He was a master carpenter, builder, poet and martial arts champion - black belt in Judo and Karate. He was bigger than life and always had presence wherever he went. He is still sorely missed.
