The sign on the side of the elevator, sufficiently faded as to be nearly unreadable, indicates that the elevator was once owned by the Stephens Grain Company. Look at your computer screen at just the right angle and it becomes legible, if only.
We have no idea how long ago Stephens shut the doors and the Montana Department of Agriculture no longer lists any licensed grain buyers in Sanders County.
The elevator has been repurposed and is home to the
Grainry Gallery, an antique and used goods store. Their catch phrase: "Antiques, Gifts, New Used and a lil'bit of everything". They are housed in a large warehouse attached to the elevator and have been there, according to their Facebook Page, at least ten years.
Another sign on the building says "Visitor Center", but we can't vouch for that.
The elevator's address:
602 Central Avenue South
Plains, Montana
