The round fountain was a donation by the local bank 'Sparkasse' for their 50th anniversary in 1986.
There's a small plaque with details. It can be visited all the time without any restrictions.
Text of plaque:
'Am 1. Juli 1936 gründeten die Städte Weißenburg, Treuchtlingen, Pappenheim und Ellingen mit dem damaligen Landkreis Weißenburg eine gemeinsame Sparkasse. Aus Anlaß der fünfzigjährigen Wiederkehr dieses Tages stiften die Vereinigten Sparkassen Weißenburg in Bayern diesen Brunnen.'
