This is one of three wooden eagles at the Chalet Motel, on the west side of the road at 6430 Highway 93 South in Whitefish. This one is in the courtyard in the front of the motel, while the other two guard the office, perched on hand carved benches.
This is by far the largest of the trio. He has just landed on a dead tree snag after doing a little fishing, presumably on his way back to the nest. With wings still outstretched upward, the carving is about ten feet in height. It's very well done, well detailed - very impressive. We assume the this eagle was carved from a section of a pine tree at least three feet in diameter.
