The bronze statue is part of a monument to the animal sculptor Antoine-Louis Barye, who created the smaller, original version of Theseus fighting the centaur Bianor. This larger statue was created by Laurent-Honoré Marqueste, a French sculptor in the neo-Baroque Beaux-Arts tradition.
