The church was originally built in the early 17th Century but it was in the state of ruin by the beginning of the 20th Century. It was rebuilt in the 30's. There is no information about the era of the cross standing in front of it. The "cruzeiro" (Portuguese word for this kind of crosses - churchyard crosses) is made of stone as usual in such cases.

In the chapel there is a mural depicting the life and works of Saint Anthony.
