When travelling south from downtown Whitefish, Montana on Highway 93, watch for bears. Or, at least, watch for this bear.

The eagle eyed traveler will spot this black bear posing in front of the Chalet Motel, on the west side of the road at 6430 Highway 93 South in Whitefish. He is the largest of a few wood carvings on display outside the motel and, of course, the most fear inducing. That is, until one looks at his face. He wears a very pleasant, near comical expression, the expression of a very genial bear. Pretty much life sized, he was carved from what was likely a pine tree and stands on the remaining uncarved portion of the stump.
He's beginning to show a few cracks, but they don't seem to have affected his demeanor.
