The school was built to serve South Worcester an area that was sparsely populated until the mid 1850's. The area was employed by the nearby carpet manufacturing facilities which provided the impetus for residential growth in the area, necessitating a new school. The school remained in use until 1976, in 1978 the city sold the property. Today it appears it is used for some kind of pre-school activity or day care based on the toys in the front.
