The meetinghouse was the nucleus of Little Haddam in the mid 1700's. The village was located on a relatively busy road, it was a natural place for people to gather for weekly religious services. The church also served at the town meetinghouse house until 1796. The town meeting resumed in this vicinty with the building of the Town Hall specifically for this purpose. The church was the work of Lavius Fillmore, an influential architect/builder of the times.
