Near Point of Rocks, and embedded in a locks that was part of the C&O Canal, is this survey disk, embossed with the number '327.'
To get to the survey disk, from MD Route 464, turn onto Lander Road and follow it to a turnoff across the CSX railroad to the parking lot. At this location is a lock to the old C&O Canal.
The marker is located on the south wall of the lock at a corner. It is approximately 25 ft east of the bridge over the lock.
The marker has "U.S.E.D." at the top. In the rectangle are the digits, "327." U.S.E.D. is U.S. Engineering Department, which was a part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
I could not find any data sheets for this marker.
