Civil War US Navy cannon and carriage located in Brant Cemetery. Markings indicate it was most likely cast by Builders Foundry of Providence, RI. It carried a weight of 4510 lbs. which probably indicated a 30 pound shot.
The cannon was donated to the James Ayer Post 202 of the G.A.R. in 1897, but it wasn't until 30 May, 1899 that it was mounted and dedicated in the Brant Cemetery.
Text on the base reads:
ERECTED IN MEMORY OF
SOLDIERS AND SAILORS
OF THE WAR OF 1861-5
Brant Cemetery can be accessed by travelling east from Brant on Brant-North Collins Rd (CR 249).
