I recovered this U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey reference mark from 1947 in good condition. This THOMS series of marks are easy to spot from the dirt road by two carsonite witness posts. The 2004 datasheet log as well as my posted coordinates are very accurate for this reference mark's recovery.

REFERENCE MARK 1 RECOVERY (2004)

RECOVERY NOTE BY CALTRANS 2004 (JRL) TO REACH REFERENCE MARK 1 FROM THE INTERSECTION OF HIGHWAY 299 AND HIGHWAY 395 NORTHEAST OF ALTURAS GO NORTHEASTERLY ON HIGHWAY 299 5.46 KM TO A GRAVEL ROAD ON THE LEFT ( OLD HIGHWAY 299). TURN LEFT AND GO WEST ALONG OLD HIGHWAY 299 2.04 KM TO THE STATION ON THE RIGHT. THE STATION IS 1.3 M SOUTHEAST OF AN ORNAGE CARSONITE WITNESS POST, 1.3 M NORTHEAST OF A WHITE CARSONITE POST WITH AMBER REFLECTOR, 4.5 M SOUTHEAST OF THE NORTHERLY RIGHT OF WAY FENCE, 17 M EAST OF A 3 WAY FENCE CORNER, AND 24 M WEST OF THE CENTER OF OLD HIGHWAY 299.
