Marker denoted the location of the Harroun Family burial plot. Richville was the original name of Pembroke. The cemetery is sometimes refered to as the Town of Pembroke Cemetery.
The cemetery was in use from the early 19th until the early 20th century. A caretaker was kept on until the mid 1930's.
In 1987 the remaining stones and fragments were gathered and buried en masse under the memorial stone. The remains were left as is, unmarked.
Marker text reads:
RICHVILLE PIONEER CEMETERY
Originally the private burial ground of the
Harroun family. Burials here date back as far
as 1820 and continued through the early 1900's.
The caretaker in 1934 was William Kirchhof.
There are approximately 60 people buried here.
In 1987 the remaining stones were placed into a
coffin rough box and buried where the memorial
stone is placed.
The cemetery is located on Back Road in Pembroke, just off NY Rte 5.
