This beautiful monument can be seen in the park surrounding the Bolshoi theater in Minsk. It's one of several sculptures in these grounds but probably the only one which is not dedicated to arts.
It's at its best in a cold morning with blue skies, when the light turns all the surroundings in a magic scenario.
The statue of Marat Kazey was placed in a massive stone plinth. It's made of bronze and it shows the partizan with a handgrenade.
There is a plaque with a short text (couldn't translate it all), saying that this is a homage to Marat Kazey (1929-1944), a partizan hero of the Second World War. When I visited there were a few fresh red flowers placed there recently by someone.
The actual Marat Kazey was born in October 1929 in a village of Minsk region in 1929. He joined the resistance against the Germans in 1942
He died in action in 1944 when surrounded by enemies he killed himself with a hand grenade.
He was considered Hero of the Soviet Union (May 8, 1965). Also Kazei was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War First Class and the medals For Bravery and For Combat Service.
This monument was erected in in 1958 with money collected by Belorussian Pioneers.
