Puvodne na míste paláce stálo devet domu. Stavebníkem soucasného paláce byl Jirí Adam II. z Martinic, který pro stavbu získal rímského architekta Carla Fontany. Stavba zacala kolem roku 1700. Po vymrení Martinicu získal palác rod Clam-Martinicu a patril jim až do roku 1837. V tom roce koupil palác armáda a zrídil tu delostreleckou nemocnici. Vojáci využívají budovu dodnes – sídlí zde Hradní stráž.

Originally the site of the palace stood nine houses. The builder of the present palace was George Adam II. of Martinitz. The architect was Carlo Fontana from Roma. Construction began around 1700. After the end of Martinitz acquired the palace family Clam-Martinitz and belonged to them until 1837. In that year bought the palace and army artillery set up the hospital.
