Bow Island, as do many small towns on the prairies, has a water tower to supply the town with water. This one, however, has a slightly different appearance.

Given that the area grows a lot of beans, Bow Island has characterized itself as The Bean Capital of The West. So naturally, their water tower has been remodelled somewhat to take on the persona of a bean pot. It looks high - glad I didn't have to do the work. The water tower is on Fifth Avenue at Third Street West, near the western edge of the town.
The area was first settled in 1900. In February, 1910, the Village of Bow Island was formed, and on February 1st of 1912 the village was incorporated as the Town of Bow Island. Irrigation arrived in the area in the 1950s, doubling the population of Bow Island. There are now about 110,000 acres under cultivation surrounding the town, much of it under irrigation and devoted to bean growing.
