This World War II memorial is located on the grounds of the Legislative Hall, Delaware's state capitol building. It was dedicated in a ceremony on November 9, 2013. The memorial honors all Delawareans who served during World War II.
The monument base includes engravings of the seals for each armed service branch. Engraved medals feature the campaign seals for the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign in memory of VE Day and VJ Day. The honorable service emblem is displayed at the top-center of the monument.
The inscription on the center column reads:
IN HONOR AND MEMORY OF ALL MEN AND WOMEN OF DELAWARE WHO SERVED IN THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TO PRESERVE OUR FREEDOM DURING WORLD WAR II 1941 - 1945 |
