Depicted bronze bust of Peter I. the Great, the most influential Tsar of Russian Empire, decorates the arcade of Emperor's Spa (Císarské lázne) sanatorium in spa town Teplice.
The bust, work of National artist of the Russian Federation, sculptor V. A. Surovcev (Moscow), was unveiled in November 1st, 2012 in arcade of one of the Teplice' most notable spa sanatoriums. Peter the Great visited Teplice spa exatly 300 years ago, in November 1712, accompanied by German philosopher and mathematician Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz.
Peter the Great, Peter I or Pyotr Alexeyevich (9 June 1672 – 8 February 1725) ruled the Tsardom of Russia and later the Russian Empire from 7 May 1682 until his death, jointly ruling before 1696 with his half-brother. Through a number of successful wars he expanded the Tsardom into a much larger empire that became a major European power. He led a cultural revolution that replaced some of the traditionalist and medieval social and political system with one that was modern, scientific, Europe-oriented, and based on The Enlightenment.
