The original railway station was constructed early in 1889,soon after the railway line was officially opened in February 1889. The current building was constructed in the 1920's and is of brick and corrugated iron construction with wide overhanding eaves, supported by large cantilevered timber brackets.
In the mid 1978 the West Australian Government Railways (WAGR - later Westrail)discontinued passenger travel and the station was subsequently used as a goods service only until the mid 1980's. The old station building was then leased out as office space to the private sector.
