Frederick Henry Piesse, CMG (6 December 1853 – 29 June 1912)is credited with much of the early development of the region around Katanning, where in 1891 he built a flour mill that still stands.He also established a wine industry, making wines that won awards in Perth, London and Paris.
At the December 1890 election, Piesse was elected to the Western Australian Legislative Assembly which he held until his resignation on 26 October 1909.
The bronze statue is standing on a granite plinth looking down one of the main streets of the town , he is wearing end of the 19th century clothes - double breasted over coat and bow tie. The statue was sculpted by P.C.Pocelli
