Vestal was originally part of the Town of Union formed in 1823. Union was named for the union of two forces that joined near here to fight the Indians. They burned the Chugnut village near here Aug 18, 1779. Draper's trading post was built near here in 1783. First free bridge between Vestal and Union built 1870. Vestal Railroad Depot built 1881. Vestal Town Hall was dedicated 30 June, 1955. Binghamton University (SUNY) is actually in Vestal. The population of Vestal was around 28 thousand in 2010.
